FROM CUT LIST TO WORKSHOP PACKET
A clearer plan.
A better prepared bench.
Arrange sheet goods, see what fits, and take numbered diagrams and labels to the workshop.
One material & thickness per packet.

Project setup
Units relabel values; they do not convert them. Measure actual usable sheet dimensions. No edge trim, defect, thickness or material matching is included.

Part grain is relative to its entered width/height. Rotation is allowed only when the mapped grain matches the stock. “Any” part grain can fit any sheet.

How the material accounting works
Utilization = placed part area ÷ area of sheets actually used. Kerf reserve is the disjoint separation strips removed when each free rectangle is split: right strip = min(kerf, spare width) × placed height; bottom strip = min(kerf, spare height) × full free-rectangle width. Remaining area = used-sheet area − part area − kerf reserve. It includes all free rectangles, without judging which offcuts are reusable. Unused sheets are excluded. Kerf reserve is a conservative layout model, not predicted sawdust from an executable cutting sequence.
Built for the handoff to the bench

A beginner’s shelf project describes difficulty visualizing whether parts fit one sheet; replies discuss kerf, grain and manually planning a cut order. That is a workflow signal, not a representative demand study. Reddit cut-list discussion.
